Where can I get royalty-free horror game sound effects?

Horror Essentials from MoneyWithJJ Sound is a 30-sound royalty-free pack of ambient beds, stingers, creature and body sounds, built for dread that builds rather than jump-scares. Every file is uncompressed 44.1 kHz 16-bit WAV, levelled to -1.5 dBTP so nothing clips on engine import, and licensed for commercial use with no attribution required. It is $14.99 on itch.io and Fab.

Can I use Horror Essentials in a commercial game?

Yes. Royalty-free for commercial and non-commercial work, unlimited projects, no attribution required. The one restriction is that the audio files may not be resold or redistributed on their own as a sound library or pack. Full terms are on the licensing page.

What format are the files?

Uncompressed WAV, 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo, levelled to −1.5 dBTP true peak. WAV rather than OGG because Unity and Unreal re-encode audio at build time, so importing an already-compressed file compresses it twice and you hear the artefacts. Every file is checked for edge clicks and DC offset before release — here is why that matters.

How the sounds are made

The source audio is generated with ElevenLabs Sound Effects under a paid commercial licence. That is the starting point, not the product: each candidate is screened by ear, the ones that do not hold up are cut, and the survivors are trimmed, faded, level-matched across the pack and set to −1.5 dBTP.
